Your kit will include a prepaid returns envelope, information leaflet and a quick prep collection tube. Results will be emailed the same day as your sample is received by the lab and for a positive result a text will also be sent so that you do not miss your results.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eInstructions for use:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e 1. Hold the red part of the tube system and then turn anti clockwise. Remove the red end (containing the white tip) by pulling it up.\u003cbr\u003e 2. Insert the white part of the tip (that has notches on) in to the stool and turn 3 – 4 times in order for the sample to collect in the notches.\u003cbr\u003e 3. Replace the red part back in to the tube and twist clockwise to lock.\u003cbr\u003e 4. Place the whole tube system in to the bubble wrap bag and seal.\u003cbr\u003e 5. Complete your information form\u003cbr\u003e 6. Place both the bubble wrap bag (now containing your sample) and your leaflet in to the free post returns envelope.\u003cbr\u003e 7. Pop it in a standard letter box.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003ePlease note:\u003c\/h4\u003e\nA Fecal egg count is a snap shot of a specific moment in time. The test detects eggs of mature parasites that live inside the body and pass their eggs to the outside by shedding them into the dogs stool’s. It is possible that at the time of testing the parasites are too young to produce eggs, if no eggs are being shed the infection cannot be detected. The main species of yeast that affects dogs is Malassezia, which can live happily on a healthy dog. The dogs immune system will usually keep yeast numbers in check however on occasions other conditions such as food allergies, illness affecting the immune system and hormonal conditions can cause the Malassezia to develop in larger numbers causing an imbalance; leading to an infection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYeast infections can also affect dogs that like to swim. In this case, the ears provide a perfect environment (moisture) for the yeast to flourish!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is also common to see yeast infections in dogs where food allergies are present. This can also be the case for dogs that suffer with environmental allergies too. Anything that negatively impacts the skins ‘normal’ defence can make a yeast infection more likely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eYeast or mites?\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA very good question! While some symptoms may be similar, you know your pet and symptoms such as an odour, associated with a yeast infection will be a good indication. You may have already started an elimination diet and therefore already suspect higher yeast levels. As with anything, sometimes, it is simply a process of elimination.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eWhat we do:\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour samples will be examined under the microscope using the Impression Tape samples and by carrying out a smear test with your swab sample.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eWhat will this test tell me?\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis test is a non-invasive tool that can be used as a process of elimination where your dog is experiencing symptoms. If your dog is showing severe symptoms then you should contact your vet for advice and treatment options. Results from this test can be shared with your vet who (where applicable) will then be able to determine the best treatment options, appropriate for your dog.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour vet may also wish to carry out additional testing to identify the root cause if an underlying condition is suspected.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTip \u0026gt; Pet Insurance:\u003c\/strong\u003e You may be able to make a claim on your pet insurance for this test and ongoing treatment, should a positive result be identified. Using the swab provided, wipe the swab end around all the areas of concern.\u003cbr\u003e 2. Once taken, place the swab back in the tube and do the lid up (making sure it is tight).\u003cbr\u003e 3. Write your dogs’ name on the tube\u003cbr\u003e 4. Place your swab tube in the bubble wrap bag provided\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eImpression Tape:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Your kit contains 4 Tape Impressions.\u003cbr\u003e 1. Peel back the paper side, trying not to touch the sticky side of the tape.\u003cbr\u003e 2. On the area of concern, clear as much hair as possible and place the tape on to the area. Rub this with your finger so that it is pressed against the skin.\u003cbr\u003e 3. With your finger, rub over the top of the tape to ensure all of the tape touches the area of concern. Do this for each impression.\u003cbr\u003e 4. Once done, fold the impression tape in half, so that it sticks to itself.\u003cbr\u003e 5.
